Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Using Central One-Third of the Patellar Tendon

Abstract
There is still considerable difference of opinion as to the treatment of reconstructing the anterior cruciate ligament in chronic rotatory instability. This paper presents a method of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using central one-third of the patellar tendon.
The patients were followed for a minimum of 2 years and the average follow-up was 30 monti s with -a range of 2 to 4 10 years. The results were evaluated by Marshall Score Sheet. The preoperative score was Fair(+) in 12.5%, Fair(-) in 12.5%, and Poor in 75%. But it was improved to Good in 12.5%, Fair(+) in 62.5%, and Fair(-) in 25% postoperatively.
And also the score after Posterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction was improved to Good in 20% and Fair(+) in 60% from Fair(+) in 10% preoperatively.
Central one-tird of the patellar tendon was selected as the substitute because it has been shown by Butler et al to be the strongest biological substitute about the knee, having approximately 191 percent of the strength of the anterior cruciate ligament.
